Our sail training classes are offered to small groups of middle school-aged students on board Flying Goose, our fully equipped and state-of-the-art 56 foot racer cruiser, implemented over 2 to 3 days. The classes include a welcome session, tour of the sailboat, history of sailing, safety protocol, sailing terminology, use of use of equipment, knot tying, sail raising, points of sail, charting, etc… As a culminating activity, students experience an educational cruise aboard the vessel. All instructions tutorials and training sessions are facilitated by Oceanie Sailing Foundation’s team of volunteer sailors, interns and captains.
In addition to sail training classes, Oceanie Sailing Foundation grants students the opportunity to participate in an educational historic New YORK harbor tour, facilitated by trained volunteer sailors, captains and educators. During the tour, students learn historical information about New York Harbor, the Statue of Liberty and Governors’ Island.
